Irreverent, unconventional, irritating, brilliant, excessive and totally free from any possible schema: these are the characteristics of an artist who subverted the destiny of twentieth century art. For Jean Dubuffet, the cultural art of museums and galleries did not exist: a true artist should break away from any known thing, destroy the superficiality of the ordinary and remove the mask of the social and civilized man to express the primitive and pure individual that everyone has within.
